These ancient livestock guardians come from the Central Asian Republics of the former USSR. These dogs are very large and muscular. They are calm, fearless flock guardians. Middle Asian Ovcharkas are independent and will stand their ground. Loving and protective of their families, they should be supervised with children. Socialization is a must, this is not the breed for a timid owner. These dogs need lots of exercise and room to run.

Their dense coat comes in 2 varieties, long and short. They do not require a lot of grooming, but will shed heavily in the Spring.

They weigh 88 to 143 lbs. and stand 24-32" at the shoulders.
