Silken Windhounds

Silken Windhounds

Silkens are renowned for their outstandlingly good temperament. While they share the aloof nature of most sighthounds, they enjoy being family pets and are happiest with their loved ones. Silkens are easily trainable and eager to please. They require little grooming and are very clean and tidy by nature.

The Silken Windhound is a small, hardy, strikingly elegant sighthound. Its classic, sweeping lines and athletic build are the hallmark of a true coursing dog, which is evident beneath the, luxurious, silky, yet protective coat. Its size, structure, and coat enable the Silken Windhound not only to be a capable runner over a wide variety of terrain and through unpredictable weather conditions but also to be competitive in a variety of dog sports.

Silkens are small, typically 18-24 inches at the shoulder. Their coat is easy to care for and comes in all colors and spotting patterns. They have dark eyes and pigment, scissors bites with full dentition, lovely angles front and rear, and that elegant outline so often seen in Sighthounds. Desired attributes are listed in the Silken's breed standard on the ISWS website.
